The Finance Program
The Finance Major (BBA) offers two concentrations: Managerial Finance and Financial Planning. Minors are offered in Banking and Financial Services and Personal Finance. A certificate in Financial Literacy is also available.

The Managerial Finance Concentration (BBA)
The Managerial Finance Concentration should be selected by finance majors interested in obtaining the Certified Financial Manager (CFM) designation. This certification is jointly sponsored by the Financial Management Association and the Institute of Management Accountants. Eastern’s Managerial Finance program is one of the few programs nationwide aimed at preparing students for the CFM examination. It combines four advanced courses in managerial accounting with four advanced courses in managerial finance to prepare students for positions in managing financial assets and liabilities.
The Financial Planning Concentration (BBA)
The Financial Planning Concentration provides a broad education in finance. Courses include investments, portfolio theory, and advanced financial institutions in addition to advanced managerial finance and global financial management. This option prepares students for financial institutions management and financial investments management.
The Banking and Financial Services Minor
The Minor in Banking and Financial Services is designed to provide students with an understanding of monetary policy and its impact on our economy, global financial markets and the structure and operation of financial institutions. This coursework will prepare students to understand current events related to financial markets and institutions, how to optimally utilize the corporate and consumer products and services provided by financial institutions and management of financial institutions. This 24-hour minor includes coursework from economics, accounting, and finance.
The Personal Finance Minor
The Minor in Personal Finance is designed to prepare students to make informed financial decisions regarding investments, mortgages, loans, retirement planning, etc.
Students with a minor in personal finance must earn at least 12 hours of the total hours at EKU and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 in all courses comprising the minor. This 18-hour minor includes coursework in accounting, finance, and risk management and insurance.
The Financial Literacy Certificate
The Financial Literacy Certificate program will train students and community leaders to become certified financial literacy instructors who will be able to teach community members to make informed financial decisions and take better control of their financial futures.
The certificate in financial literacy is awarded upon successful completion of FIN 390s, Community Financial Literacy. This 12-hour certificate includes coursework in finance and a certificate in Community Financial Literacy.
